COST Action Language In The Human Machine Era is accepting applications for Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs). This year, we have several application deadlines. Applications will be processed in batches until all available grant funding is allocated.
Deadline May 20, 2024 : decisions by June 1, 2024
Deadline June 12, 2024 : decisions by June 18, 2024
Deadline August 24, 2024 : decisions by September 1, 2024.
One application per person. STSMs granted within this application period must be completed before 30 SEPTEMBER 2024. NB! Preference will be given to applicants who have received no previous STSM or ITC grants from LITHME.
An STSM is an individual research visit to a host organization located in a different country than the country of affiliation, enabling the participant to gain and share knowledge. We are looking for people who can make productive links between humanistic linguistic inquiry and computational approaches to language technology. That means we equally welcome those who know about language but not so much about technology, or vice versa, or both. All that matters is the potential to gain and share knowledge across those boundaries.
The STSM is a networking tool offered by COST, aimed at supporting individual mobility, strengthening existing networks and fostering collaboration between COST Action Participants. Each STSM should specifically contribute to the aims and objectives of LITHME. See our home page, our forecast report, these LITHME-specific criteria and our previously funded STSMs. Funded STSMs should also enable participants to learn new techniques, and to gain access to specific data, instruments and/or methods not available in their own institutions. Participants do not need to cover all the topics of LITHME, but they should fit the profile of at least one Working Group, and ideally demonstrate learning across the interests of different Working Groups (especially between linguists and technology).
Financial support (up to EUR 4 000,00 per grant) is limited to cover travel, accommodation and meal expenses and is paid in the form of a Grant after the submission of an STSM report (template: https://www.cost.eu/STSM_Report). 50% pre-grant is possible.
