Call for applications: Training school 2021

‘Language in the Human-Machine Era’ (https://lithme.eu/) aims to prepare the field of linguistics for imminent changes in the way we use technology to communicate. From immersive augmented reality to super-intelligent chatbots, in the near future we will be communicating in very different ways. This will present significant challenges for all areas of linguistics and language research; and so we must all adapt, whether or not we know much about technology right now!

LITHME is here to raise awareness of these challenges, and to prepare linguistics and its sub-disciplines for what is to come. Our fully funded training school is open to any eligible researcher who is interested to explore how the widespread use of new and emerging technologies might influence their research. No technological expertise is required, only an interest in exploring the possible effects of these near future advances in language technology.

We’re currently planning for this to be held in person. We really hope the vaccination effort makes that possible! But if not, our hosts UNED (National Distance Education University of Spain) have specialist expertise in remote learning, so we can still hold a high quality online event.

More information about eligibility, and the online application form, can be found at https://lithme.eu/training-school/. The deadline for applications is 3 May.

We hope to see you in Ávila!
